Congratulations on a superb Olympics Kristina! And congrats to all the other athletes, organizers, fans and the people of Vancouver. It was an incredible happening. Work required me to be in Tanzania, 11 hours ahead of Vancouver, so I could only follow on the internet. Sleeping while the events were happening, waking up to the results. It was inspiring, especially for a weekend warrior like me. The racing season starts on Good Friday and I can't wait!

Sadly the winter Olympics are a non-event here, even to the other Canadians and Americans I met, so I made it my role to keep them up to date on Canada's success :) Especially when we beat the US head-to-head!

Proud to be Canadian!

Kristina,

Like everyone else, I still can't believe the outpouring of Canadian spirit and joy in the events. Working at the curling venue was supposed to be a calm and appreciative crowd... but no one told the hockey fans they couldn't show up... and we had the loudest little curling rink in history.

And the Oval is spectacular, but the crowd was trying to match the hockey and curling for cheering. It was awesome to hear... and I bet for you just overwhelming to know the cheers were for you specifically.

We are so proud of you and your teammates. While it was a surprise that you weren't in the Team Pursuit final, it was okay because we saw how hard you worked and how well you did.

I was there for the 1,000 metre, and when you were skating in the final pair it was one of the most exciting events I have ever seen. We could see that you were catching up and putting every ounce of effort into that last couple hundred metres. The whole crowd was on their feet cheering... even willing you on. It was so close, and we were so proud of you and Christine.

You will always be my favourite speedskater, even if we didn't share a last name. I wish you all the best in the future and maybe we will meet again someday.
